When I go grocery shopping, I like to stick to a list before going in. It helps me stay on track and buy exactly what I need for weekly meal prep. I’m always on the lookout for sales and my mother always taught me to shop around for the best prices. Check out my must-haves for healthy eating below 🛒
🥬 Veggies – I love trying new veggies and always get carrots, broccoli, collard greens, spinach, lettuce, kale, cucumbers, and beets.
🍎 Fruit – I try to buy what’s in season, but I love oranges, watermelon, grapefruit, lemon, kiwi, green apples, and blueberries.
🥖 Grains – sprouted or sourdough bread are great because they’re fermented and don’t contain enriched flours, which are harder to digest. I also love quinoa, couscous, wild rice, & sweet potatoes. Occasionally I’ll get organic, gluten free oats too.
🥩 Meat – I try to buy quality chicken, turkey, (and beef or steak on rare occasions). I only buy wild caught fish, my favs are salmon or flounder. I never buy farm raised fish.
🥛 Dairy – I’ve reintroduced dairy into my diet and switch between regular and dairy free cheese. I limit my DF cheese intake because of the additives, potato starch, etc. that they use to achieve the cheesy texture. Feta cheese is a new fav of mine! I can’t eat creamy sauces because it triggers my flare ups, so I substitute with coconut milk. If I get eggs they are pasture raised.
🥥 Healthy fats – I always have avocado on hand! I also like coconut oil, ghee, grass fed butter, peanut butter without added sugar, and high-quality olive oil.
